-Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Nat'l Parks Sept 2007

The wolves and the cow elk having their stand off.

Over Labor Day Weekend of 2007 I traveled to Grand Tetons and Yellowstone Nat'l Park.  The view of the Grand Tetons were amazing but the highlight of the trip was seeing the wolves in Yellowstone.  I was at the overlook a Hayden Valley for 6 hours and finally the last 2 hours the wolves came out and had chased a cow elk and her calf into the river.  The alpha male and female wolf watched from the top of the hill, while the 4 wolf pups made runs at the cow elk.  She held them off until it got dark.  I didn't get a close up photo but I found one on the web that sums up what I was watching, see above.  Other wildlife I saw on the trip was a black bear sow with 2 cubs, a bull moose, antelope, many buffalo, coyote, an osprey.  What an awesome trip.

I'll let the pictures tell the story,
